Baljit Kaur is a Research Assistant on the project. She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of Sussex. Her doctoral research is an ethnography of young people’s production of rap music in East London, in which music making and musical practices are the vehicle through which violence and resistance to violence are made intelligible. Her postdoctoral research Mapping ‘the Streets’: Young Women Music Creatives and Violence in East London develops this research and provides a gendered account of young women’s practices and the way in which power works through urban space.
