Gerrilyn Smith. Gerrilyn came to England and completed her Clinical Psychology training at the Maudsley, Institute of Psychiatry. She joined the London Rape Crisis and Research Project in 1979 where she was actively involved for many years in the collective working of the project, including on the crisis line as an unpaid worker.  She has worked in multiple health and social care settings and trained as a Systemic Psychotherapist at the Tavistock. She ran the Department of Health Postgraduate Training programme in Child Sexual Abuse based at the Institute of Child Health and Great Ormand Street Hospital. She was a member of the Clwydd Inquiry on institutional abuse in residential units in North Wales. The subsequent report was never published but led to the Waterhouse Inquiry. She has worked with children and adults who have been in the care system and she has written extensively about her professional experiences – most recently a draft chapter entitled ‘Consent in the Age of Entitlement’ based on a brief presentation I did for this project. Currently she is Senior Consultant for Building Psychological Capital, an independent provider of mental health services for children in residential care.
