Julie Wheelwright FRHistS is an honorary research fellow in the school of historical studies at Birkbeck College, University of London, and consultant on a Wellcome Trust/British Academy funded project, ‘Writing Difficult Subjects’: Towards the development of creative writing as a self-care tool kit for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) of gender-based violence (GBV). She founded the UK’s first dedicated post-graduate degree in non-fiction writing at City University, London, where she was programme director until 2020. A former journalist and broadcaster, she is the author of several books about women in conflict, the most recent of which is Sisters in Arms: Female Warriors from Antiquity to the New Millennium (Osprey 2020). Her currently writing about cultural representations of female espionage agents as figures of propaganda in post-war Britain.
